Once upon a time long ago in a town called Mendocino there was a famed restaurant called Cafe Beaujolais.  Folks would come from far & wide to sample its wonderful foods, not the least of which was its lovely panforte.

Panforte itself is a product of the Middle Ages, an Italian confection most people believe was created in Sienna. The dessert is chewy and loaded with nuts and fruit. Traditional panforte is disc shaped, dusted with powdered sugar, and wrapped in paper.

Usually a small wedge is served with coffee or a dessert wine after a meal, though some enjoy it with their coffee at breakfast.  Some folks enjoy it as part of a charcuterie plate, or with cheese and sparkling wine!  Panforte will keep for a long time, due to its honey base.  In fact Roman soldiers would take it on long marches!
